ihar CM Nitish Kumar Rakes up Reservation Issue, Says no One Has The Power to Scrap Provision – No One Has The Power to Scrap Provision of Reservation, Says Bihar CM Nitish Kumar
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar raked up the issue of reservation for repressed classes and asserted that ‘no one in the country has the power’ to scrap the provision. He also asked how will those at the margins come to the mainstream if reservation won’t be there.
“If there won’t be reservation then how will those at the margins come to the mainstream? No one in this country has power to scrap the provision of reservation. We will sacrifice whatever maybe required, if needed, but no one has the power to scrap reservation,” he said on Wednesday while addressing Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) workers of his party, Janata Dal (United), from the Magadh region at a conclave in Patna.
Claiming that the provision for reservation was made to help the marginalised sections join the social mainstream, he alleged that some people wish to give rise to tensions and differences in the society. “Ambedkar’s (draft of) Constitution was approved by the Constituent Assembly,” he was quoted as saying in a PTI report.
The Bihar CM said his party introduced reservation for SCs in village panchayats in 2006 and reserved 50 per cent quota for women. He also spoke at length about the various schemes undertaken by his government for the welfare of Dalits, minorities and other weaker sections of society.
JD(U) national general secretary and MP RCP Singh, state minister Ramesh Rishidev and MLA Abhay Kushwaha also attended the conclave.
